the cultural center is located in rio's boisterous downtown neighborhood, in a historical building, dating back to 1911- the construction was built to house the company headquarters, of the light cable company, and has maintained much of its renaissance style architecture, despite its facade being redone in 1985.

the building has had various uses over the years, but it was in 1994 that it was converted into the cultural center - today, the center spans across an impressive three thousand square feet, which includes planet energy, the lamartine babo theatre, numerous exhibition halls, an auditorium and an indoor garden.
