rio de janeiro is rich with culture, tradition, and beliefs spanning across cultures and ethnicities. here we listed some of the popular beliefs and customs that we found interesting and that are still popular in many households across the city and the state, especially with the elders.

even if no real belief is behind them, they are a precious tool to better understand and integrate into the local culture.  when the beliefs are specific to certain towns in the state, we listed the origin in parenthesis.
