as compared to the caipira, the roots of the craviola are easily traceable. invented in 1969 by paulo artur mendes pupo nogueira, the craviola's is a 12 string electrified guitar with a tonality in between the sound of a harpsichord and a viola.

born to a musical family, nogueira was a famous guitarist before his invention skyrocketed him to the stratosphere of mpb. his ascendance into the pantheon of brazilian guitarists, and the craviola's continued manufacture by the gianni instrument company, has ensured the instrument's permanence in the brazilian musical lexicon.
