there are general benedictions and specific prayers for individual maladies. in the folkloric tradition, it is impossible to separate the body from the soul - one cannot save only the soul or only the body. 

two forms of prayer comprise the faith portion of folk medicine -  the ex-voto offering, which can be an object of wax, wood, silver or other material in the form of a body part, or crutches, paintings, photographs or other miniatures, to give thanks and ask for cures, graces, divine shielding from danger or religious experiences and secondly the exorcism, which is the domination and expulsion through word and sacred rite, of a spirit or demon that has possessed the afflicted.
