the museu aeroespecial is located in the campo dos afonsos military base in jardim sulacap, a neighborhood on the west side of rio. the museum, founded in 1976, is the official museum of the brazilian air-force.

here the history of the military branch is told through collections of aeronautic material, weapons, engines, models, maps, photos, videos and documents of historical value. the museu aeroespacial also works to restore old airplanes, and exhibits them to the public.
