museu casa de rui barbosa is dedicated to rui barbosa de oliveira, an influential brazilian political figure that fought for abolition of slavery in the 19th century - he lived in the estate, that is today the museum, from 1895 to 1923. the house and garden are preserved in the manner that rui left it.  

this museum archives more than 35,000 volumes of rui's old books and documents, telling the story of brazil's origin.
