at a glance

the landscaped park consits of 19 acres of woodland, of which 6 acres were especially refurbished for public use, with benches and paved paths,  creating a comfortable and well-planned public recreational and leisure space.

the lush greens and forests that remain on the island, as well as its unique location in the bay,  contribute to a milder climate and better air quality compared to some of the more densely populated areas of rio. this makes the park a particularly popular spot for joggers, cyclists and other sports. furthermore, the park also features a playground for children.

opened to the public in 1995, it is located on an elevation near the historic igreja da nossa senhora da conceição (church of our lady of immaculate conception) and was named after the historian marcello de ipanema, who died in 1993 after publishing several works about the history of governor's island.  arrow-back     arrow-forward
