at a glance

given their proximity to the coast, the islands are easily accessible by canoe or kayak, and ilha da măe is particularly popular among aficionados. most of the terrain near the waterline is exposed rock, so it is important to wear appropriate footwear to avoid getting injured on the barnacles, mussels and sea urchins that cling to the sides. further, the smoother rocks tend to become slippery with the coming and going of the waves.

there is no beach at which to disembark, and it is recommended that boats be anchored at the south side of the island or pulled up on the rocks if conditions permit. there is a small trail that cuts through the dense vegetation on the south side, leading to the tallest point on the island, where one can view the surrounding islands and the beautiful coastline of the mainland. arrow-back     arrow-forward
