at a glance

ilhas alfavaca and pontuda, in the tijuca island chain, have become very popular in the rock climbing community, both in its traditional form and in a newer style of free climbing called 'psicobloc,' also referred to as 'deep water soloing.' psicobloc is done on sea cliffs, usually at high tide to make falls safer. ilha cagarra, in the cagarra chain, has a nearly 90ş wall on its northwest side that is also a hotspot for climbers.

diving and scuba diving remain the most popular activities in the oceanic islands. both the cagarras and tijuca islands are known for the variety of marine wildlife found in their waters - dolphins, fish, sea turtles, stingrays, eels, and more - and the variety of depths around the islands makes them enjoyable for divers of every skill level.arrow-back     arrow-forward
