geologically and biologically speaking the pointy island (ilha pontuda) is very similar to alfavaca. its name comes from a sharp peak easily seen at distance. this landmark is also the location of a small beacon used to help the local navigation.  the laje das tijucas is the last among the bigger islands of the group. is also among the most distant from the coast, a fact that makes it less visited than the others and, as such, much calmer.
