the ilha do modesto is an island, listed as one of the city's biological reserves, in one of the city's largest lagoons. it was created by state law, in 2002, and preserves the native flora and fauna of the region, which it has in abundance, as it fits nicely in the oceanic region.

more than just conservation, the creation of the island, as a biological reserve, had a number of aims and objectives, to give the biome of the island the best possible chance of preservation. at its core, the reserve is aimed at protecting the rare and endangered ecosystems of the region, but it also hopes to rescue and consolidate the history of the island, as well the regeneration of the native ecology, by reintroducing native species of various kinds.
