there are many notable peaks within the park including the pedra do altar (stone of the altar) reaching 2665 meters with the pico dos três estados (peak of the three states), so called because of the park's overlapping the states of minas gerais, são paulo and rio de janeiro - second only to the pico das agulhas negras, the highest mountain in rio de janeiro state reaching 2797 meters in height.

in the southern region of the state near paraty, the bocaina mountains, part of the national park serra da bocaina, contain two peaks of notable beauty - the pedra do frade in angra dos reisreaching 1550 meters, and the pico das três orelhas  (three ears peak) in neighboring mangaratiba.

nearby in the reserva ecológica estadual da juatinga, rock formations border the ocean and reach upwards of 1000 feet with the most famous being pico do cairuçu, reaching 1000 meters.
