it is believed that the original
inhabitants of this region, called puri, settled the lower
part of the valley, near the paraíba do sul, the principal river
in the region.
the park's name comes from the
indigenous puri language and signifies 'rock
of many peaks'.
today, the ecological reserve and
national park known as
parna do itatiaia offers visitors a truly stunning vista and
exposure to some of the most idyllic natural escapes in brazil.
