at a glance

the reserve spans across 14,860 hectares, including an enticing 44 kilometers of lush atlantic coastline, with the aim of the park to protect this precious part of the world, as well as the rare and endangered ecosystems that live within it.

green turtles (chelonia mydas), green-tailed lizards (cnemidophorus littoralis), and birds such as the thalasseus maximus are all important citizens of this reserve.

the site of the park has been in use by humans for many years, as the goytacazes indians, an ancient indigenous tribe, with warrior traditions, once inhabited the area.

the name of the park was inherited by the ancient peoples of the region, which translates to 'land of many palm trees'.  arrow-back     arrow-forward
