at a glance

in addition to the extensive hicking, trekking, and climbing to be done, nature enthusiasts can enjoy a wide variety of flora and fauna, as the park counts more than 2,800 cataloged plant species, as well as 460 bird species, 105 mammals, 100 amphibians and over 80 reptiles - and these include 130 endangered and near extinct species that are native only to this particular region.

there are also innumerable waterfalls, natural pools, and visitors' centers loaded with helpful information, as well as plenty of green spaces to enjoy day-time picnics with the family.

the name serra dos órgãos is derived from the resemblance of the peaks of this park to the tubes in an organ in a church - thus the nickname serra dos órgãos, or roughly, 'organ ridges.'  arrow-back     arrow-forward
