The park is a protected area of native and sometimes endangered animals, plants and trees and part of the larger Mata Atlântica - bringing outside animals is never permitted, except seeing eye dogs.

The enjoyment of the natural waterfalls, streams, and pools of waters found everywhere is permitted and even encouraged - except for the forested sector of Tijuca.
