for ease of navigation we have created the following categories in subsequent sections - the most extensive and untouched areas are grouped as 'forests', such as the forest da tijuca and the forest da pedra branca. similarly, we classified smaller and more urbanized green areas as 'city parks', such as the parque de flamengo and the parque dois irmãos.

furthermore, we listed medium-sized protected green areas with particular abundance of wildlife as biological & ecological reserves. finally, we included in this section of the guide smaller, manicured green areas and classified them as gardens.
