at a glance

in 1965, in bolivar street, in copacabana, to avoid the ban of the police from playing football and 'pass line' on the beach, octavio decided to play on a volleyball court with net and delimited field, which was allowed. alas, the game of foot volley was born.

each game is made up of two teams, consisting of five or two players, depending on the match, who stand either side of a net. like in volleyball, the ball is not allowed to touch the ground, with both teams attempting to volley it past the opposition within the boundaries, using only head, chest, knees and feet- no hands allowed.

deeply ingrained in the cariocaculture, professional footballers often play the game with the likes of ronaldo, ronaldinho, and romário- all having represented their country at the sport.   arrow-back     arrow-forward
