following the occupation of the favelas, the desafio da paz (peace challenge) was a short 5000 meters run by residents of the communities, that follow the routes taken by the drug trafikers during their final flight from the police.

special event runs are also organized for a variety of occasions, such as the corrida de cristo, a run to the top of the corcovado mountain, home of the statue of christ the redeemer, to honor rio's world youth day in 2013.
