prainha is a remarkable wild beach located in the neighborhood of recreio dos bandeirantes (recreio). this area in the west zone is home to some of the best beaches in rio de janeiro. miles of unspoiled and 'undiscovered' beaches with white sand, pristine water, and stunning nature are a true spectacle and an ideal spot for surfing and scuba diving.

prainha beach is the first beach in rio to receive the coveted blue flag from the foundation for environmental education - an international symbol for the high quality of the beach. the assessment includes criteria such as safety, water quality and beach management. this is the result of extensive conservation efforts by officials and locals to keep this beach an environmental protection area, with minimal infrastructure. there is however, a special little beach front kiosk, which is a popular meeting point for locals and travellers.
