itacoatiara beach is located across the guanabara bay in rio de janeiro's sister city niterói, approximately 30 minutes south of the town centre in the suburb of the same name. it is well worth the short ferry trip from centro in rio to the  niterói terminal, from which a 30 minute bus ride will take visitors to this remarkable location.

itacoatiara beach, nested at the bottom of pedra do elefante and surrounded by beautiful nature in the middle of an environmental protection area, is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the entire states. once here the oppertunity lends itself to explore the surrounding mountains, and to take in the stunning views of rio from across the bay.
