the praia do pontal is located in the emerging west zone of rio de janeiro. the area is one of the less developed parts of the city, as it is situated in the young neighborhood of recreio dos bandeirantes, which helps it to maintain a more easygoing atmosphere.
the pontal beach is an extension of the praia do recreio, set between the pedra do pontal (pontal rock) in the east and pedra de itapuă separating pontal beach from macumba beach in the west. The idyllic 1km stretch of sand is a favourite among surfers, fishermen, families and all those looking to avoid the crowds of the more famous beaches of the zona sul (south zone).
