the precious joatinga beach represents a small stretch of white sand between the high rocks of the seaside hills. the gávea rock rises just beside it surrounded by the dense atlantic rainforest, amidst which large mansion can be spotted from the road.

the beach is located in the zona oeste (west zone) of the city, within the neighborhood of joá, which is among the smallest neighborhoods of rio de janeiro and also one of the most exclusive.  the beach however is accessible to the public and infact, has a uniquely welcoming atmosphere with a diverse crowd.  many young people meet here to play sports and enjoy the pleasant company in the beautiful surrounds - the sun set from the beach is a particularly stunning sight.
