sometimes known as the 'king of latin music', roberto carlos was not actually born in rio, but was moved there by his parents at the age of 15 - once there, roberto was inspired by the rhythmic beat of the city, especially the musical street of matoso, in tijuca and, soon after, he started recording his own music.

also known to frequent tijuca's, matoso street, was rio's humorous musician, tim maia - coming to particular prominence during the black movements of the 1970's, maia became known for performing a wide variety of musical genres.
