the aterro do flamengo, or parque brigadeiro eduardo gomes as it is officially known, is one of rio de janeiro's man-made parks, perfectly integrating a beach, a park, and sporting infrastructure.

opened in 1965 and spanning across 1,200,000 square meters, the park is home to the modern art museum,  the monument to the fallen of world war 2, and leisure facilities such as two cycle lanes, sports courts, and skating rinks.
