at a glance

the reputation of the  seafood of the zona oeste (praia dona luiza) & niterói (jurujuba) has been in high regards with locals for a long time, but not many international visitors are aware of this. with almost a thrid of rio's neighborhoods bordering the sea, it is natural for cariocas to have a particularly close relationship to the ocean and the treasures it provides.

seafood is no exception and many restaurants the city over offer excellent fish and seafood menus. however, two locations stand out in particular, when it comes to fruit of the sea  - they are located along the western shores of zona oeste and across the bay in niterói. both require some travel time to reach and are best planned as part of a day trip to explore other the sights of these regions. arrow-back     arrow-forward
