morro do corcovado (hunchback mountain) is located in rio de janeiro's tijuca rainforest and stands at 710 meters tall. it is somewhat similar to sugar loaf mountain (pão de açúcar) but sets itself apart due to the world famous christ the redeemer (cristo redentor) residing atop of its granite peak.

the elevation of the mountain's peak make for some breathtaking views of the surrounding area and almost all of rio de janeiro's renowned landmarks can be seen from the summit - dom pedro II inaugurated the corcovado railroad in 1884, which makes it one of the oldest functioning railways in the country. departing from rua cosme velho the scenic ascent takes approximately 20 minutes to the top.
