another great location for nature lovers within the city limits, is rio's botanical garden - just below the famous corcovado mountain. the botanical gardens is 137 acres of intriguing nature, housing over 8,000 types of plants and flowers, from brazil and other parts of the world. 

established in 1808, and then opened to the public in 1822, the garden is now fitted with two museums, greenhouses, a library and shops, making it a great location for visitors to learn about the surrounding area.
