bar veloso, in the leblon district, has a name with an intriguing backstory serving as a tribute to the original drinking spot, nowadays garota de ipanema, composer antonio carlos jobim and his poet friend vinícius de moraes frequented at back in the summer of 1962, sitting on the balcony watching the world go by and when 18-year-old carioca helô pinheiro breezed by, they were blown away by her beauty and inspired to write the world famous song 'the girl from ipanema'.

the décor pays homage to the song and all those involved, especially the true girl from ipanema - black and white pictures and records adorn the walls and the joint gets busy from thursday to sunday.

brahma is the most popular beer on tap but there are other options with wines and cocktails available -  the menu features some seafood dishes such as squid as well as some sharing plates made up of corned beef and fried cassava, available at reasonable prices.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
