ernesto is a german restaurant located downtown in lapa. the original owners fled germany and their family restaurant in 1933 to escape the then nazi rule. after a couple of years settled in brazil their new restaurant had opened, now run by their grandson. located in a 19th century townhouse, this popular restaurant serves both traditional german and brazilian cuisine, as well as an extensive sandwich menu. one of the famous highlights is the beer that ernesto has to offer, as the establishment has a wide selection of international beers available, including of course german dark beers - somewhat of a rarity in rio.
