jazz is a very popular music style in rio de janeiro, so much that it has annual festivals dedicated to the genre the leblon jazz festival, with the first edition held in november 2012, is a cultural event promoting the genre and appreciation for music - the festival gained much popularity, granting editions in the city of săo paulo as well. 

just a couple of hours outside the city of rio, within the rio de janeiro state, in the small town of paraty, there is an annual free jazz festival called the bourbon festival paraty - it is considered one of the most important musically-related events in brazil, commemorating the sounds of jazz, blues, r&b and soul.
