at a glance | For a more complete immersion in the carioca culture, we have turned the spotlight to some famous cariocas and important dates, which are both part of the history of Rio and interesting topics of conversation should the desire arise to enroll in a Portuguese course in order to better communicate with the friendly and talkative carioca. In a more serious tone, an assortment of official documents and, more specifically, visas have been highlighted so that short and long term visitors do not lose precious time and money researching information that might even be available in Portuguese only, or that could require a visit to the City Hall. In addition to that, this chapter was designed having in mind those planning a longer stay and wondering about the cost of living, or the ones simply curious about the fascinating processes of starting a business, volunteering for a project, finding a permanent or temporary job, studying at an university and moving to Rio in a more permanent fashion. |
