at a glance | IFRE is a volunteer program that places people in various sites within the city of Rio de Janeiro, based on the needs of both the individuals and the local community organizations - this program specifically supports orphanages, children with cancer, and ESL programs. The program's themed projects include childcare, teaching programs, computer teaching, graffiti, youth athletics, handicrafts, and music and dance projects - Volunteers who participate in the programming have the option of staying in a hostel either in Santa Teresa, a bohemian hillside neighborhood of the city, or stay in a different hostel within walking distance of Copacabana beach. Programs generally start every Monday, though there is some flexibility with this due to travel restrictions - Volunteers pay an application fee and a weekly program fee that goes towards breakfast and towards directly supporting the particular project that is chosen and the fees go up incrementally based on the length of stay. - IFRE can be contacted via this email or the form on this page. | important dates | |||
