by 2009 the rei & rainha do mar started getting national attention, and shortly after two levels were introduced - the two levels include Travessia (crossing) and Desafio (challenge) - travessia is designed for amateur athletes and desafio for professionals - Swimming World magazine has recognized the event as one of the best swimming competitions in the world.

In 2010, the competition added female participants and adopted a three-phase structure - this structure holds true until today and includes the Desafio Elite, which was a relay race including swimming and running in the sand.

Now rei & reinha do mar includes several styles with a beach run, classic and stand up paddle - its flexibility provides ample opportunities for individuals to race in their favorite beach exercises - The event keeps on collecting fans, followers and global recognition.
