visitors walk along the pier taking in the sights while kids enjoy playing in the various playgrounds in the area - at the end of the beach is the praça da baleia a square with a 20 meter long bronze statue of the jubarte whale  in the center, and a popular market for arts and crafts, making this so one of the most visited sites of rio das ostras.

praia da tartaruga (turtle beach) has calm waters and is an ideal place for families with children and for fishing - turtle beach hosts rio das ostras' blues & jazz festival,  and got its name from a large rock shaped like a turtle if viewed from above.

the beach was chosen by tamar for the preservation of marine turtles that are at risk of extinction - joana beach is small but very beautiful with its crystal clear waters, and it is part of the monumento natural dos costões rochosos (natural monument of rocky shores) of rio das ostras.
