the remains of three indigenous skeletons, shells, axe blades, oyster shells and kitchen utensils, was first discovered, by a local fisherman, in 1987, and are believed to be over 4,500 years old - now open for public viewing, the site is the oldest sign of human occupation in saquarema.

saquarema is home to one of brazil's oldest and most beloved rockers, sérgio augusto bustamante, popularly known as serguei - gaining popularity in the late 60's, serguei toured all over the world, including performances at woodstock, which culminated in a relationship with janis joplin.

serguei's local residence is a museum in the town, called 'the temple of rock', where the aging rocker hosts members of the public, to share with them his incredible stories, and to display his incredible collection of rock memorabilia - it has been visited by over 20 thousand guests, and continues to be one the great cultural sights of saquarema.
