at a glance
due to its small size, the community is more limited in terms of commerce and trade as compared to other favelas, but it does have one school and two kindergartens, shared with its babilônia sibling.

in recent years, chapéu mangueira, along with four other favelas, contributed to the first edition of the gastronomic tour of communities in rio, (circuito gastronômico sebrae) showcasing bamboo shoot pastries and the deliciously sweet quindim - this show was designed to demonstrate and enhance the gastronomic potential of communities, promote local business and contribute to job creation.

babilônia and chapéu mangueira are two favelas that evidences most clearly the touristic and cultural potential of pacification - once much more dangerous and socially precarious, the communities have opened their doors so that residents and visitors alike can share and enjoy their environment, privileged views, and culture.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
