the institution is named after laurinda santos lobo, an enthusiastic patron of the arts who used to regularly reunite intellectuals and artists at her home.

santos lobo played a special role in the beginning of the last century in rio de janeiro, for her soirees that were frequented by well-known figures in the arts on both a local and international level.

today the center maintains this tradition of promoting cultural and artistic activities, and has established itself as an important space for artistic groups local to rio de janeiro.
