much of the fort do pico was remodeled in 1918, after architect marshal hermes da fonseca initiated the new design. the highest part of the building was created during this time, it comprises a new structure partially burrowed into the rock.

the fort was armed with four 280mm german krupp howitzer cannons, each positioned in a bunker - it was called into action a further two times after1918.
