this is in addition to several lookouts and beautiful views over the city and the atlantic ocean.  

tijuca spans over 12 square miles of mountainous terrain, and has undergone a large reforestation process after thousands of trees were cut down to make way for sugar cane and coffee plantations.  

the forest is part of parque nacional de tijuca, which is made up of four sectors including tijuca forest, the carioca, pedra bonita / pedra da gávea and liners black / covanca.
