inaugurated in 1923, the belmont copacabana palace hotel is rio de janeiro's most famous hotel. built between 1919 and 1923, it was one of the very fist luxury hotel of the city, aimed at receiving high profile guests that were anticipated for the great exposition in occasion of the centenary of the independence of brazil of 1922.

unfortunately, due to delays in the shipping of materials and a high tide that damaged the construction, inauguration of the hotel only happened one year after the centenary.
