at a glance

this military base was then disbanded in 1834, only to be armed and made operational again in 1893, during a period of post-republican turbulence, that witnessed a revolt by the Brazilian navy. it was later upgraded by fitting 6 modern long range cannons, during a tense diplomatic dispute with argentina.

the fort then was disbanded again in 1895 and left to abandonment for some time. however, in the early 20th century the fortification saw works of modernization, due to concerns over how impending wwi would affect the country.
