to allow for a thorough exploration of all the exhibits an allocation of one hour to 90 minutes should suffice. the formal gardens surrounding the palace are also well worth a walk - there is also a café in an artificial grotto and a small branch of the wonderful folklore museum containing puppets and folk art from around brazil.
