Fábrica Bhering (Bhering Factory), which was once the famous old chocolate factory of Rio de Janeiro, dating back to the late 1930s, has returned to the 21st-century as a museum. 

The industrial space has, since its closing, been converted into an art space which is currently occupied by artists who take up all of the five-story building except the fourth floor, which is where the museum is located. 

The Bhering Factory was one of the frontrunners in Brazil to use modern machinery as steel dominated the industry post-WWII.  The preservation of the equipment allows visitors the opportunity to explore how its popularly delicious chocolate was manufactured and refined.  There are even tasting samples provided!

The vintage industrial décor of the building most certainly adds a very unique and original charm to the venue, as well as inspiration to many of its artist tenants who feature sculptures, videoart, photography, art installations, and etcetera.   

There are over 50 art-design studios and workshop spaces where local art is created, exhibited, and sold.  Treasures can also be found in the many boutiques and brechós (second-hand shops) located inside the building.

The Old Bhering Chocolate Factory is still located at its original location in Rio's port region neighborhood of santo cristo , offering an eclectic combination of culture, both old and new. furthermore, the Bhering Factory offers select culinary classes to the public free of charge.
