located on the grounds of the former home of the portuguese royal family, the rio zoo spans almost 30 acres and contains at least 450 different species for visitors to see, including various rare species native to the region. among them is the yellow-throated capuchin monkey, a very rare subspecies that was bred at the rio de janeiro primate center.
