the museu histórico do corpo de bombeiros do estado do rio de janeiro (historical museum of the state fire department of rio de janeiro) is located at the historical praça da república in the centro neighborhood of rio, inside the former central station building.

the items on display across two exhibition floors document the history of Brazil's first fire department, from it's creation by dom pedro II in 1856 until recent history. the collection includes vehicles and other equipment as well as documents describing personalities and significant historical events and developments within the department.

the museum is open to the public from tuesday to saturday between 9am and 5pm, admission is free. guided tours for groups of up to 50 people can be organized by contacting the museum.
