the museu militar conde de linhares (military useum conde de linhas) is located in the neighborhood of são cristóvão, inside an old military buidling, which has served in varies military capacities since its' construction in 1920, including training facilities and adminitration.

the name of the museum honors the memory of legendary conde de linhares, who accompanied the portuguese royal family on their move to rio in 1808 to become the minister of war and foreign affairs. during his short term in office he was hugely influential, particularly in the establishment of the royal military academy.

The museum features permanent exhibitions including military paraphernalia, uniforms, historic records and an impressive documentation of the progression of weapons used by the brazilian military. it is open to the public from tuesdays to sundays (including holidays) between 10am and 5pm
