the museu naval e oceanográfico (navy and oceanography museum) is located inside an antique building on the historic praça xv in the centro neighborhood of rio de janeiro, where it serves in its function to keep the naval memory of brazil alive, as well as educational and documentation of this interesting part of brazilian history.

items on display in the permanent exposition include weaponry, model ships, preserved military equipment, military themed art works and historic documents.
the museum is open to the public mondays to fridays, between 8:30 and 11:45am, and from 13:15 to 16:00, except on public holidays.
