praia do farol is protected by the brazilian government and is unesco listed, so visitors must get permission from the navy, via the instituto de estudos do mar almirante paulo moreira, in order to visit.  

the beach is 1km long with fine white sand and is surrounded by small sand dunes - the water is transparent, cold and blue and the beach is known to be a good location for all types of fishing and for diving.     

it also offers beautiful views of the morro do pontal do atalaia, ilha dos porcos and the prainhas beaches.
