while the word 'paradise' might seem too strong when used in this context, it is safe to say that ilha grande is at the very least a sanctuary of natural beauty and tranquility. 

one of the most famous parts of ilha grande, lopes mendes beach is on the east end of the island, with an almost three kilometer extension of fine white sand bordered by thick tropical vegetation and the reputation of being the most beautiful and calm coves.
